Collection of Information 

The purchase of a motor vehicle requires considerable accumulation of nonpublic personal information. For example, if we sell you a vehicle - extending you credit at your request - we will receive information from you in order to determine your creditworthiness. We may also obtain information from a credit-reporting agency. We may also obtain information from third parties such as employers, references and insurance companies. 

Some of the information we obtain from you may be required by state or federal agencies, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles or the Internal Revenue Service. This information may be required even if you were to pay cash for your vehicle. Examples of such information include a driver's license number or a social security number. 

In connection with CarSense ESP, we may receive and store certain information related to your ESP Profile and your shopping and service history.  We may use such CarSense ESP profile information for purposes of sending you reminders, alerts and tips, unless you request not to be contacted.    

Some information collected is non-identifying.  For example, although our site servers collect information about a user’s internet protocol address, our server is not able to automatically associate that information with a particular user.  We may collect non-identifying information associated with that address, such as the time and date of a visit, the originating domain name, the browser type, and the particular pages or products viewed on the site.
We may utilize a “cookie.”  A “cookie” is a small text file that a website can place on your computer’s hard drive in order to collect information about your activities on the website.  Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you have the option to change your browser to decline them.  We use cookies on certain pages of our websites, but these cookies are not used to identify anonymous site visitors.  Our cookies enable you to proceed smoothly through our sites and enable us to know whether you’ve visited our sites before to eliminate some steps that are directed to new visitors.  Similarly, a cookie may be placed by our third-party advertising companies.  These companies may use aggregated statistics about your visits to this and other web sites in order to provide you with advertisements about goods and services that you may be interested in.  The information they collect does not include your personal information. 

Image tags work in conjunction with cookies. An image tag, also referred to as a clear GIF or web beacon, is a small image file that may be located on select areas of on our website.The third-party advertising companies may also employ technology that is used to measure the effectiveness of ads. Any such information is anonymous. They may use this anonymous information about your use of our website and third party media in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of potential interest to you. No personal information about you is collected during this process. The information is anonymous and does not link online actions to an identifiable person. 

At this time, CarSense has contracted with Google to collect information about how users navigate our website and to help optimize your visit to our website based on past visits.  CarSense uses Remarketing with Google Analytics to advertise online.  Third-party vendors, including Google, display CarSense ads on sites across the Internet.  CarSense and third-party vendors, including Google, use first party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies together to inform, optimize and serve ads based on your past visits to our website.  This information will not be disclosed and will be used only to generate anonymous visitor profiles, which do not contain personally identifiable information. The anonymous profiles are used to provide users content specifically tailored to them. To opt out of Google’s collection of information about how you navigate our website, please go to Google Privacy Ads Page.  You can customize Google Display Networks ads using the Google Ads Preferences Manager.  You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising by using Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.   

With respect to unrelated, third party web sites, such as third party online retailers, advertisers, or unrelated sites that we may happen to link to, or web sites that link to our website, those third parties may collect personal information directly from you. The information policies and practices of these unrelated parties are not covered by this privacy policy. We do not control the privacy policies of third parties even if we may provide hyperlinks or other access to their web sites. We are not responsible or liable for their independent policies and practices. Please review their privacy policies and practices. It is your responsibility to review them and decide if you are satisfied with their protections. 

We collect certain personally identifying information that users voluntarily provide to us. For example, we collect the email addresses of those who contact us by email. We also collect information that you voluntarily provide to us in surveys. As described above, we use that information to serve you, to improve the content of our website, and to contact you for marketing purposes. 

Protecting Your Information 

We take commercially reasonable efforts to protect the information we collect.  However, as effective as these measures are, no security system is impenetrable.  We do not provide an absolute guarantee of the security of our information databases, nor do we guarantee that the information you may choose to supply will not be intercepted while you transmit it from your computer, over the internet, or along other third party networks, and to our systems.  However, with respect to security: when we intend to transfer and receive certain types of sensitive information, such as financial information, we redirect visitors to a secure server. We also maintain physical safeguards that comply with state and federal law. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees and outside contractors who need to know the information to provide a product or service to you. We prohibit our employees and agents from giving information about you to anyone in a manner that would violate any applicable law or our privacy policy.

Information Sharing 

We share information: 

A.  As permitted by federal or state law.

B.  For purposes of processing a sales transaction as your request or authorize, such as submitting information to third party financial institutions that may be requested to take an assignment of the contract or verifying insurance coverage information.

C.  When using outside service providers to help us provide you with products and services. Before providing information to our service providers we enter into contractual agreements prohibiting them from disclosing or using the information other than for the purpose it was disclosed.

D.  With "Affiliated" companies. Companies that are affiliated with us include any company we control or any company under common control with us.

Except as provided in this Privacy Policy, we do not share nonpublic personal information to non-affiliated third parties.
