Jeep, a division of Chrysler, began producing civilian off-road vehicles in 1945 making them the world's first SUV brand. The first Jeeps were produced for military use, but civilian models retained many of the same characteristics. Jeep, originally a military slang term, is now an official trademark of the brand.
